Ok you asked for it and I'm dishing it out!! Wichita Event Planner's picks for the year 2012!! I can already tell it is going to be an amazing year from some of our clients in the works wedding plans. Here is our list of tips and trends for 2012.

Wedding Trends 2012

Color- According to The Knot Pastels like pink and lilac are the “it” colors of 2012! I have always loved a soft pink (paired with a bold accent color like navy or silver) or soft lilac (paired with deep plum purples or sage greens.) My trend pick is COLOR! Multiple colors and bright colors from the rainbow are in! I admit even myself to hear a bride listing more then 2-3 wedding colors or even using the term "all of the colors in the rainbow".......(yes I've had a few brides) But after seeing season 3's "butterfly bride on David Tutera's My Fair Wedding on the WE Channel I was truley inspired by amazing bright colors!

Theme or Specific Style Selection:

Less is more sometimes and more and more people are opting for smaller more intimate ceremonies then celebrating with everyone afterwards for a luncheon or dinner reception! A private residence with a great landscape can be the perfect setting for your picture perfect nuptuals.

Fun Pinterest Photos:

A good quality photographer is NEVER an area to skimp on if you want rememorable photos of your special day. When it comes to working with your photographer they need to know your personalities and background a little to really "capture your story" in their photos. If they meet you once briefly to mainly capture your name and info then show up and go through a routine of photos then your photos will reflect a traditional picture no differen then the ones that you'll replace out of your house frames....boring and plain! Find fun poses that really tell your love story or find a photographer who's work and portfolio expresses a photojournalistic style that matches your own!

Dessert Bar's / Appetizer Bar's / Sunday Bar's, etc.

Dessert Tables as an alternative to wedding cake or as a nice addition to the wedding cake have been becoming more and more popular but now the "Bar" has branched out from not only sweets but the main courses too!

Considering doing a BBQ Dinner for your guests? Why not do a mac n' cheese bar with individual servings of mac n' cheese and then lots of yummy self serve toppings to go on top of them like shredded cheese, bacon, sour cream, chives, green onions, chopped onions.

Yes Princess Kate trailed the way with this one after showcasing her dazzling oval, 18-carat blue sapphire and white diamond ring! Jewelers are starting to feature varies saphires, rubies, emeralds, etc into their wedding bands and sets as well as feature jeweled stones as the rings as well.

Guest Satisfaction Survey:

In the past weddings were still very traditional in the sense of who paid for what, who sat where, how the order of every event was to proceed. Most of the rules of etiquette are still great to follow but the value of the day is becoming more emphasized on experience not just the event. Things have become a little more relaxed with brides and grooms a lot of times forking the wedding bill themselves or both sides of the family pitching in funding so it's becoming more important to our clients for their guests to enjoy their day too. Will everyone attending feel comfortable? (temperatures, handicap accessibilities, room lighting, restroom cleanliness, food and drinks being provided based on appropriate times of day)

Strapless dresses will still rule the bridal aisle, but expect more coverage for 2012 with a sexy twist. Think: sheer backs and illusion sleeves. And don’t be surprised if the look of lace pops up on everything from the wedding cake to the décor.

We decided to go outside the box with our booth and do something less traditional with Royal Blue and Burnt Orange table display. Being the same day as the Denver Broncos game there were some fans showing their spirit who LOVED our table!

Ceremony Processional Order

One of the grandest part of any wedding ceremony is when the bridal party makes its entrance. The air is full of anticipation, and the groom anxiously awaits his first glimpse of his bride in her wedding dress. But do you know what order your bridal party should walk in? And who escorts the mother of the bride?

Different types of wedding processionals
The order of wedding processionals follows a general pattern, but varies according to religious traditions.

For a Catholic wedding processional:
The priest, groom, and best man enter through a side door and wait at the altar.
The groomsmen and bridesmaids walk down in pairs, starting with the two who will stand farthest from the bride and groom, and ending with the best man and maid of honor.
The ring bearer and/or flower girl
The bride and her father, or other close family member. The bride walks on the left side. If the bride's escort is her father, he leads her to the front of the aisle, then takes his seat next to the bride's mother.

For a Jewish wedding processional, the order goes something like this:
The Rabbi and/or cantor
Grandparents of the bride, who are then seated in the first row
Grandparents of the groom, who are then seated in the first row
Groomsmen, walking in pairs
Best man
The groom, who is escorted by his parents.
Bridesmaids
Maid or Matron of Honor
Ring bearer and/or flower girl
The bride, escorted by her parents

For a Protestant wedding, this is the traditional order of a wedding processional:
The mothers of the bride and groom are seated after all guests are seated, and immediately before the start of the processional music. They are usually escorted to their seats by a brother of the bride or groom, or by another usher.
After they are seated, the officiant, groom and best man enter by a side door and wait at the altar.
Groomsmen may also enter by a side door, or can escort the bridesmaids.

Ring bearer and/or flower girl
Maid or Matron of Honor
The bride, escorted by her father or other close male family member or friend. At the front of the aisle, her escort can remain standing with her until the minister asks "Who gives this woman in marriage?" to which he responds "I do," or "Her mother and I do." However, some people feel this tradition is old fashioned and sexist, and choose to forgo it. In such a case, her escort walks with the bride to the front of the aisle, and then takes his seat in the front row.

For a non-denominational ceremony, a secular ceremony, or a non-traditional ceremony, you can either borrow liberally from one of these traditions, or make up your own rules.

In all cases, the bride traditionally stands on the left, and the groom on the right. **This dates back to medieval times when the groom might need to defend his bride in the middle of the ceremony, and wanted to leave his right hand, his sword hand, free. While few grooms even carry a sword anymore, the tradition has lasted.

What can I do if?

A wedding processional using two aisles?
People tackle the problem of two aisles in a variety of ways. You can choose to only use one aisle, but this means that many of your guests will feel far from the action. I often advise couples to do the processional up one aisle, and the recessional down the other. Another alternative is to have bridesmaids walk up one aisle, and groomsmen up the other. The bride and groom can then each choose an aisle to enter through.

A wedding processional with a small bridal party?
If you only have a few people in your bridal party, it's a good idea to send them up one by one. For example, if you had a best man, maid of honor, flower girl, and ring bearer this should be the order
Groom takes his place at the front
Best man enters
Maid of Honor walks up aisle
Ring Bearer
Flower Girl
Bride, with escort if she has one.
With such a small wedding party, it's probably not formal enough to warrant a formal seating of the mothers and grandmothers. However, if you still want to do this, let the best man seat the grandmothers and the groom seat the mothers as part of their entrances.

Don't forget to smile! It's a good idea to have either a coordinator, or a friend with a written list helping to line up the bridal party and telling each person when to go. They can stand just beyond where the guests can see them. They should also remind each person to smile when they're walking down the aisle!

As you anticipate your first holiday season as a married couple, you should consider a few things that will make the season a little easier on you and your spouse. The holiday season doesn’t have to be a divisive time, but here are some tips and issues to consider.
1. Try to be sensitive to your spouse’s traditions involving family celebrations and church services. It’s best to try and get on a schedule early in your marriage – i.e.: this year is at my parents and next year is at your parents. You can’t be at two places at once! Quality time at one place is better than trying to squeeze in two celebrations and feeling rushed, or having to travel long distances during the holidays from one celebration to another.
2. Holiday decorations can have a lot of meaning to people. It is always very exciting to get your first Christmas tree together. If possible, make the event extra memorable by going to a farm and cutting it yourself. Traipsing through a tree farm together searching for that perfect tree is a lot of fun. Afterwards, you can enjoy a cozy mug of cocoa snuggled in front of a crackling fireplace.
3. Carrying a lot of holiday decorating baggage can be a bad thing. Personalized Christmas stockings are a great example of an issue that can cause problems. If you both have old ratty stockings that Grandma made you but that look horrible together, it may be a great time to get new coordinating personalized Christmas stockings. You’re building this new home together and sometimes you shouldn’t be afraid to start fresh. Create new memories together!
4. When does Christmas morning actually start? Some people actually like to sleep in on holidays, some people carry a tradition of waking up early and starting right away tearing into gifts! Decide ahead of time when the festivities start.
5. You’re on your own now so make Christmas traditions together. It’s appropriate to hang onto old traditions that involve extended families, but you need to begin making new traditions as a new family. Don’t separate yourselves by any means but begin making new memories and traditions that can be passed on to your kids.

Very beautiful wedding July 3rd, 2010 for reception being held at The Boulevard. Tara did a wedding package including her reception site, catering, wedding cake, photography, flowers, linens, dj service, bartending, and decorating. The colors were hot pink, black, and white and it was beautiful!! Got a lot of praise from both of the brides parents of how wonderful all the vendors were and how the reception was just as they had dreamed for their little girl! Spaulding/Newell Wedding

Wow where to start with this wedding! It was a perfect day in April for this lovely couple to declare their love through their wedding vows! Kyle and Tiffany were a pleasure to work with and from our first initial consultations I knew I would really enjoy working with them. Tiffany chose a Platinum Package containing banquet hall rental, catering, cake, dj, photography, chocolate fountain, limo, linens, centerpieces, day of reception coordinating, and full reception decorating! Their colors were a deep purple (plum) and a light green (clover.) When Tiffany customized her flowers with Pam at Wichita Flower Factory she chose purple and white stock for her bridesmaids bouquets so we kept the same theme for her floral centerpieces for her wedding. It was a lot of fun and turned out very beautiful!

Mari chose to do a bridal package through us covering planning, coordinating, and decorating for her event as well as services for catering, photography, dj services, flowers, linens including chair covers and sashes, and limo services. Purple is the new black for Weddings!

According to another blog I read they stated :If you have been at the mall doing any shopping during the fall, you are bound to have seen purple everywhere. Purple is the new black. You can find purple in home furnishing and in clothing galore. Well, are we seeing that purple transferred to the wedding industry as well?

Here’s a bridesmaid’s gown designed by Vera Wang in her Vera Wang Maids collection. This is a jewel-tone dress with an amethyst silk empire bodice and a satin a-line skirt.

Here are some other pictures or some weddings using purple that I really liked! I currently have 4 brides for 2010 using a hue of this purple for their weddings this year. (plum, eggplant, purple, lilac)

2010 trends from Wedding Channel

WeddingChannel.com has announced their thoughts on the 2010 trends for the wedding industry. They predict brides and grooms will no longer dismiss their best friends of the opposite sex when it comes to their wedding party. According to a WeddingChannel.com survey, an overwhelming 63% of brides would ask their best friend to be a ‘bridesman’ or ‘man of honor’ if they were a guy.

Their survey also indicates wedding couples are interested in having a friend or family member officiate their wedding ceremony because it is more personal and intimate. Fifty-nine percent of the couples surveyed said they would like to have a friend/family member pronouncing them husband and wife.

WeddingChannel.com is seeing the wedding registry changing in the new year as well. Alternative registries are becoming more popular. Couples are still registering at 2 to 3 different retailers, but some of those choices may be places like Amazon.com, Cloud 9 Living, Traveler’s Joy or money to cause like the Human Society or the bride and groom’s specific charity.

· Map’s of everything with detailed directions. Visit Map Quest on line and enter the destinations they might be going and print maps. Be sure that this includes the reception dinner location, church, reception locations. Include maps on to the mall and other places of interest.

· Snacks and bottled water are a great thing for anyone to have in your hotel room.

· A note from you and the groom thanking them in advance for taking the time to be part of this special weekend.

· Decorate your bag with tissue and a bow. They can either be given to them at check in or left in their room for their arrival.
